Applied Agility in Leadership™

Turn What You Learned in Agility in Leadership™ into Lasting Change

In Agility in Leadership™, you began to see your own leadership patterns: when you rely on your expertise, when you push for results, and when you create space for others to contribute. That awareness is an important first step. Changing how you lead every day requires more: regular practice, honest reflection, and support from people who understand the challenges you face.

Applied Agility in Leadership™ provides all three. Over two 12-week courses, you apply what you learn directly in your work, reflect on the results with a small group of peers, and receive one-on-one coaching from a licensed ALJ Guide. The focus is on building habits that last beyond the program. At the end, you'll recognize your own personal change story that describes how your leadership has grown.

The Applied Agility in Leadership™ Courses

Developing a Growth Mindset™

The skills that helped you succeed as a leader, such as deep expertise and a strong focus on results, can start to limit you as your work becomes more complex. These limits are often hard to see in yourself. This course helps you examine how you lead from expert, achiever, and catalyst perspectives, and understand when each approach is effective and when it is not. You explore what may be keeping you from changing, even when you want to, and set a personal growth goal that matters in your current role. You learn when to rely on your expertise and when to step back, how to build alignment without pressuring people into agreement, and how to stay open to new ideas and different perspectives. The result is a clearer view of your own thinking and more deliberate choices about how you lead.

Developing Catalyst Behaviors™

A catalyst mindset makes the greatest difference when it shows up consistently in how you lead each day, especially under pressure. This course helps you turn the awareness you built in Developing a Growth Mindset™ into lasting habits. You learn how your authority and presence affect others, and how to adjust them so people contribute more fully in meetings and decisions. You practice Catalyst Conversations™ to handle disagreement, conflict, and feedback in ways that strengthen relationships and build alignment. You also examine where you focus your attention, rebalance it across the work, the people doing it, and the coordination between them, and begin coaching others to grow as leaders. The result is stronger relationships with stakeholders, more engaged teams, and a way of leading that others notice.

What You'll Gain

  • Stronger team performance and morale. Your team takes more ownership and contributes more fully when you share decisions and develop the people around you.
  • Confidence to lead through change. You learn to act with clarity even when the right answer isn't obvious and the situation keeps changing.
  • Better communication and collaboration. You build stronger relationships with your team, peers, and stakeholders, including those you don't have authority over.
  • Practical tools you can use right away. These include the Catalyst Canvas™ for goal setting and alignment as well as methods for adjusting your use of power and focus, which you practice in your own work from the first week.

What You'll Be Able to Do

Through weekly practice, peer feedback, and one-on-one coaching, you'll develop the skills to:

  • Build high-performing teams by coaching others, sharing ownership of decisions, and balancing your attention across the work, the people doing it, and the coordination between them.
  • Work through complex challenges by inviting different perspectives, building alignment, and avoiding groupthink.
  • Create conditions for innovation and creativity where people feel safe to offer new ideas and solve problems together.
  • Communicate and influence more effectively, especially during disagreement, conflict, and difficult feedback using the Catalyst Conversations™ technique.
  • Recognize when your expertise helps your team and when it limits their thinking, and adjust your approach.
  • Use your authority and presence deliberately, so others contribute more fully in meetings, projects, and teams.

It is designed for leaders at every level, with or without formal authority, who are ready to work on real challenges in their own roles. Learning happens alongside your job, so you don't need to take time away from work. You do need to commit to weekly cohort sessions and daily practice.

Prerequisite Notice: If you've not yet participated in the Agility in Leadership™ workshops, that's your first step. We encourage you to find a workshop that fits your location and schedule preferences.

How the Program Works

The program has two courses of 12 weeks each, with a break between them. Each course includes:

  • Weekly 90-minute sessions with a small peer cohort
  • Monthly 60-minute global masterclasses led by ALJ Guides from around the world
  • Three one-on-one coaching sessions with your licensed ALJ Guide
  • Daily practice in your own work

All sessions are facilitated exclusively by licensed and experienced ALJ Guides.

Limited Cohorts, Offered at Select Times

Applied Agility in Leadership™ is delivered in small, facilitated cohorts, so it is available only at certain times of the year. We keep each cohort small so that every participant receives personal attention, meaningful peer discussion, and one-on-one coaching from a licensed ALJ Guide. To protect this experience, we open public registration only periodically, and places in each cohort are limited to six leaders.

    A Growth Mindset Journey

    • Getting Started: Participants kick off the program with a cross-cohort session followed by a one-on-one coaching session with their licensed ALJ Guide and meeting their cohort of peers in their first weekly session.
    • Setting Expectations & Goals: Participants will explore their immunity to change and create a personal leadership growth goal to take them beyond their current leadership context.
    • Expert Mindset: Participants explore the difference between expertise and an expert mindset, and how that shapes their impact as a leader. They discover areas that require letting go and areas requiring grabbing on in order to shape an improved leadership profile. They reflect on other experts they work with and how their mindset shapes those relationships and their results.
    • Achiever Mindset: Participants explore the fine line between influence and manipulation as they learn the value of alignment alongside the challenge of groupthink. They learn how to broaden their gaze from the details of work toward coordinating that work and the strategy shaping the focus of that work. They navigate the stakeholder landscape of authority and politics to focus on performance and results.
    • Catalyst Mindset: Participants explore the boundaries where patience becomes stagnant, openness becomes uncertain, and empowerment becomes indecision. They learn that a true catalyst mindset is an alert and active mindset requiring courage, choice, and reflection. They begin to open their own mind to new possibilities, more diverse perspectives, and a more co-creative culture.
    • Growth Mindset Checkpoint: Participants reflect on their journey and  reflect on their initial goals, to where they feel they currently are today, and where they want to focus going forward.
