Culture Values Survey + Coaching

This program enables leadership teams to focus and shape their organization’s culture to improve organizational health and business performance. This program can focus on a single team, department, division or business unit, or entire company.
This program combines our culture values assessment survey with coaching to provide organizations and teams the information needed to understand their current culture, their desired culture and the deltas between those two states.
Offered as a private engagement for organizations and is customized for each client, the program includes a Culture Values Survey and several coaching sessions with an ALJ Guide.
The Importance of Culture to Agility
Culture has been identified as a top impediment to improved or expanded organizational agility for the past 13 years, according to the yearly State of Agile Report presented by CollabNet.
A simple definition of
culture describes the way things work or as a set of norms and values. However, as difficult as culture is to understand, it’s even harder to influence. Like a shadow or fog, culture cannot be changed directly, rather, it can be influenced through other levers such as leadership, structures, policies, and performance measures. Thus, influencing culture requires access to and influence of these organizational levers. The other key component that makes culture difficult to “fix” in relation to agile ways of working is that there is not a single “agile” culture. Rather, agility is the ability to shape and change culture to positively impact organizational health and performance. Furthermore the process of shaping culture requires whole-organization engagement that influences all levels of the organization in focus, whether a team, department, division or entire company.
What is the Culture Values Survey?
The culture survey is based on a validated Competing Values Framework developed at the University of Michigan that highlights four value systems (quadrants) which vie for attention: Collaborate, Create, Compete, and Control. The survey seeks to expose the emphasis the organization places on each quadrant today and what changes in emphasis are desired to improve the organization in order to better meet our customers’ needs and organizational goals.
The Cultural Values Survey is about more than simply quantifying the current state and desired shifts in culture, but rather creating an actionable pathway toward intentionally shaping culture at every level of the organization. Further, the survey results can provide an overview of the overall perceptions as well as segmenting perceptions in different ways such as leadership levels, office locations, functions and more. In addition to delivering a report, our Guides engage with key leadership members regarding results to help identify, focus, align and accelerate change (see coaching engagement below). Overall, it is an interactive and collaborative process to plan and implement the culture shift.

Culture Leadership Team Coaching Engagement
